Orthopaedic Rehabilitation

Orthopaedic rehabilitation is designed to help individuals recover from musculoskeletal injuries, diseases or surgeries. The musculoskeletal system consisting of muscles, bones, joints, tendons, ligaments plays a huge role in helping us move and perform our daily activities. When any of these structures are compromised, orthopaedic rehab is crucial in restoring motion, function and strength to the affected part.
Common cases that we see are, and not limited to:
-
Post-fracture surgery
-
Total knee replacement
-
Total hip replacement
-
Joint dislocations
-
Herniated discs
-
Arthritis conditions
-
Ligament or meniscus tears
Typically, you will get scans done at the doctor/ specialist you are seeing and receive a referral to see a physiotherapist. Please show all the reports to your physiotherapist before you start your rehab program.
There will be precautions and important things to note. Most of them are related to the physiological healing process of the affected structures (i.e. bone healing after a fracture). Precautions include:
-
Weight bearing status
-
Limit in range of motion
-
Brace / cast / internal fixations or implants
-
Existing medical conditions that may affect healing rate (eg. diabetes, cancer)
